WHO WE ARE Equil AI ("Equil", "we", "us", or "our") is a personal nutrition and fitness coaching app based in the European Union. You can reach us at support@equilai.app. This policy explains what data the Equil AI app collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
Because we are based in the EU and host data in the EU, this policy is written to align with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Where you live, additional or different rights may apply.
01SUMMARY (THE SHORT VERSION)
- Equil is a personal nutrition and fitness coaching app. To do its job, it processes health, fitness, nutrition, and (optionally) location data that you provide or grant access to.
- We use this data only to provide and improve the app's features for you.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your health, nutrition, location, or meal data for advertising.
- We do use a device/advertising identifier and basic app-activity events (installs, app opens, trial/subscription events) to measure how well our own ads work, shared with Apple Search Ads and Meta. This may count as "tracking". You can opt out in your device Settings.
- Apple Health (HealthKit) data is used on your device and to power your coaching; it is never used for advertising or sold, consistent with Apple's requirements.
- If you import lab results, Equil extracts biomarker values for tracking only. It does not diagnose or interpret your results.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time from within the app.
02DATA WE COLLECT
2.1 · Account information
- Email address and name, and your sign-in method (Sign in with Apple, Google, or email/password).
- If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a private relay email instead of your real address.
2.2 · Health & fitness data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
With your explicit permission, Equil reads the following from Apple Health to power your coaching features:
- Workouts; active and resting energy burned; heart rate; heart rate variability (HRV); resting heart rate; steps; walking/running distance; respiratory rate; VO₂ max; body mass.
- Sleep analysis.
- Menstrual flow (used only for cycle-aware features, and only if you choose to enable it).
With your permission, Equil writes the following back to Apple Health:
- Workouts and workout routes; dietary energy, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and water; body mass.
Apple Health data is accessed on your device. We do not use Health data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes, in accordance with Apple's HealthKit terms.
2.3 · Location data
- If you record an outdoor activity (walk, hike, run, cycle), Equil uses your device's GPS to map your route and distance.
- Your approximate location may also be used to provide local weather (via Apple WeatherKit) for the sweat/hydration forecast feature.
- Location is used only for these features. We do not use location for advertising or for tracking you across apps or websites.
2.4 · Information you enter
- Meals and food logs, including photos of food you choose to scan.
- Training programs you create or import, including PDFs, photos, or screenshots of existing plans.
- Lab reports and biomarker results you choose to import as PDFs or photos (e.g. blood test results, cholesterol panels, vitamin levels). Equil extracts the numerical biomarker values and reference ranges from these documents so you can track them over time.
- Caffeine consumption entries that you log.
- Body weight, supplements, menstrual-cycle entries, and your goals and preferences.
2.5 · Subscription & purchase data
- Subscription status and transaction identifiers are processed through Apple's App Store and our subscription manager, RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
2.6 · Technical & diagnostic data
- Basic technical information needed to operate and improve the service, such as app version, device type and operating-system version, and anonymous error and crash logs used for diagnostics, stability, and research into how features perform. This data is used to fix bugs and improve the app.
2.7 · Advertising & attribution data
- When you install the App after seeing one of our advertising campaigns, we use measurement tools to understand which campaign led to your install and whether you started a free trial or subscribed. This lets us see whether our ads are effective and spend our advertising budget responsibly.
- For this purpose, the App collects device-level identifiers, including a device identifier and an advertising-related anonymous identifier, together with app-activity events such as app installs and app opens. These identifiers and events may be shared with our advertising partners (Apple Search Ads and Meta/Facebook) to attribute installs and subscriptions to the campaigns that drove them.
- We do not share your health, fitness, nutrition, lab-report, location, or meal data with advertising partners. Advertising attribution uses only the device identifiers and app-activity events described above, plus subscription events (trial started, subscribed), never your health or content data.
- Depending on your iOS settings and your response to the App Tracking Transparency prompt (where shown), some of this attribution data may be considered "tracking" under Apple's definition. You can limit ad tracking at any time in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking.
03HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
- To create and secure your account and authenticate you.
- To calculate your nutrition targets, recovery scores, training recommendations, and other coaching features.
- To analyze food photos and barcodes you submit, so we can estimate nutrition.
- To extract biomarker values from lab reports you import, so we can display them on charts and track changes over time.
- To translate ingredient lists into your app language when needed.
- To log and track caffeine intake you enter.
- To map your activity routes and provide weather-based hydration guidance.
- To manage your subscription and free trial.
- To measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns (which ad led to an install, trial, or subscription), using device/advertising identifiers and app-activity events shared with Apple Search Ads and Meta.
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Under the GDPR, our legal bases for processing are: performing our contract with you (to provide the app), your consent (e.g. for Health and Location access, which you can withdraw at any time; and, where the App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown, for advertising-related device identifiers), and our legitimate interests in operating, improving, and measuring the effectiveness of the service and our advertising.
04AI PROCESSING OF FOOD PHOTOS, LAB REPORTS & IMPORTED PLANS
When you scan a meal, the food image is sent to Google's Gemini AI service to estimate its nutritional content. When you import a training plan as a PDF, photo, or screenshot, its contents may likewise be processed by AI to extract the structured program. When you import a lab report as a PDF or photo, the document is sent to Gemini for optical-character recognition (OCR) and to extract the biomarker values, units, reference ranges, and test dates printed on the report. When a packaged product's ingredient list is only available in a language other than the one you use the App in, the ingredient text may be sent to Gemini to be translated into your language; the translated text is cached on our servers so that the same product does not need to be re-translated for other users.
This processing is performed by Google as a service provider, through the paid Gemini API, subject to Google's Gemini API terms and its Data Processing Addendum. Under those terms, when the paid Gemini API is used, Google does not use the submitted content or the responses to train or improve its own products. Google logs the submitted content and responses only for a limited period of time, solely to detect and prevent abuse, maintain the safety and security of the service, and meet legal requirements. You can review Google's terms at https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms.
Please avoid including unnecessary personal information in submitted images. For food photos, only the food needs to be captured. For lab reports, you may wish to cover or redact your name, date of birth, and patient identifier before importing. Equil does not need this information to extract biomarker values.
05WHO WE SHARE DATA WITH (SERVICE PROVIDERS)
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Equil, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase: Cloud hosting, database, and authentication. Data is hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). Involves: account info and the app data you sync.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, HealthKit, WeatherKit, and App Store payments. Involves: auth identifiers and purchase data; Health and location are processed on-device.
- Google: Sign in with Google; Gemini AI food-photo, lab-report, ingredient-translation, and plan analysis. Involves: auth identifiers; food images, lab report images/PDFs, ingredient text, and imported plans you submit.
- RevenueCat: Subscription management, and forwarding of subscription events (trial started, subscribed) to our advertising partners for campaign attribution. Involves: subscription status, transaction identifiers, and device/advertising identifiers.
- Apple Search Ads: Attribution of App Store installs to our search-ad campaigns. Involves: Apple's privacy-preserving attribution token (no cross-app tracking identifier).
- Meta Platforms (Facebook/Instagram): Attribution and measurement of our Meta ad campaigns. Involves: device and advertising identifiers, app-activity events (installs, app opens), and subscription events. No health, location, lab, or meal data is shared with Meta.
- Open Food Facts: Barcode product lookup (open database, ODbL). Involves: scanned barcode numbers.
5.1 · Refund requests & consumption data shared with Apple
If you request a refund for an in-app purchase through Apple, you consent to our sharing, via our subscription manager RevenueCat, of data regarding your usage and consumption of the purchased content with Apple, as part of resolving that refund request. This information may include details such as whether the content was delivered and functioning, whether a free trial or sample was provided, the age and status of your account, and the total value of your purchases. The purpose of sharing this data is to help Apple make an informed decision regarding your refund request. This sharing is done only when a refund is requested, in compliance with Apple's policies, and only to the extent necessary to process your request.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your health, fitness, nutrition, lab-report, location, or meal data with any third party for their own advertising or marketing. The only data shared with advertising partners is the device/advertising identifiers and app-activity and subscription events described in Section 2.7, used solely to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns.
06INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
