Why the label matters more than the calories

A calorie count tells you almost nothing about what you are eating. The additives, the sugar hidden under other names, how processed it is, that is the part that shapes how you feel.

Beyond the calorie

Two products with the same calories can be worlds apart. One is whole food, the other is held together by a long list of additives. The number on the front never shows that.

The hidden ingredients

Sugar wears many names and additives hide in plain sight. A label reads clean until you actually decode it, which is exactly what most of us never do standing in the aisle.

One scan, the full story

Equil reads the barcode and pulls the product from a global food database, then turns it into a nutrition score, an additives check, and a clean or not verdict. The label, decoded in a second.

Scanning and nutrition, answered

How does the barcode scanner work?

Point your phone at a product barcode and Equil looks it up in a global food database, then shows the nutrition, the additives, and a clean or not verdict in a second.

Where does the product data come from?

Equil pulls product information from OpenFoodFacts, an open global food database, so coverage spans products from many countries.

What does the nutrition score tell me?

It boils the label down to a simple grade so you can compare products at a glance, instead of reading the back of every package.

Does Equil check for additives?

Yes. The scan surfaces the additives and E numbers in a product, including the ones that are easy to miss on a busy label.

What does a clean or not verdict mean?

It is a quick read on what is in a product and how processed it is, so you get a simple signal instead of decoding the label yourself.

Does it tell me if a food is healthy?

Equil gives a clear nutrition score and a clean or not signal as general guidance. It is not medical or dietary advice.

Equil offers general wellness guidance using public food data and does not provide medical or dietary advice or diagnose any condition.
