What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is the healthy range. Below is underweight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.
Is BMI accurate for athletes?
No. BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, so a muscular person can read as overweight. Use it as a rough screen, not a verdict on your body.
Does BMI use age or sex?
Standard adult BMI uses only height and weight. That is why it is a rough guide; body composition and waist size tell you more.
